Sega Is Giving Away Free PC Games on Steam This Entire Week

Sonic the Hedgehog creator and erstwhile console manufacturer Sega has put a host of games on sale on Steam. And that’s not all, it’s giving away free games as well. These include cult classic skateboard platformer Jet Set Radio, hack and slasher Golden Axe, and action platformer Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit, including its Virtual Rabbit Missions and Pimp My Rabbit Pack DLC.

Dubbed as the Make War Not Love promotion, which is in its third year, you can also pick up Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Company of Heroes II, and Total War: Attila as well as Total War Master Collection Sept 2014 (which includes Medieval II: Total War, Rome: Total War – Collection, Empire: Total War, Napoleon: Total War, Total War: Shogun 2, Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of the Samurai, Total War Battles: Shogun, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Total War: ROME II – Emperor Edition) for a smashing 75 percent off. This handy image from the Make War Not Love website explains how the promotion works.

There’s a second round of free games that will unlock on February 18. These will include criminally underrated third-person shooter Binary Domain, beat ’em up Streets of Rage 2, and survival horror game Condemned: Criminal Origins. The third round of free titles will include Gunstar Heroes, Renegade Ops, and Viking: Battle for Asgard. Not too shabby at all.

The promotion will come to an end on February 20, at which time free DLC will be given to owners of the winning game.

Get Leo DiCaprio His Elusive Oscar in This Arcade Game

Get Leo DiCaprio His Elusive Oscar in This Arcade Game

Leonardo DiCaprio, the 41-year-old actor known for his work in Titanic, The Departed, Inception, and The Wolf among others, is now the lead in an arcade-style side-scrolling video game called “Leo’s Red Carpet Rampage”.

Over the years, DiCaprio has repeatedly failed to win an Academy Award, also known as an Oscar. He’s been nominated four times in the Best Actor category – in 2004 for The Aviator, in 2006 for Blood Diamond, in 2013 for The Wolf of Wall Street and in 2015 for The Revenant – but is yet to win. The winners for 2015 are yet to be decided though, with the 88th Academy Awards scheduled for next Sunday, February 28.

It is with his unfortunate Oscar streak in mind that London-based animation collective The Line decided to make this three-button game that only works in your browser. As Leo, you must rush down the red carpet – collecting a fair share of Golden Globes, jumping over paparazzi and icebergs, crawling to his Lamborghini while on Quaaludes – all in the pursuit of that elusive Oscar.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio has over the years racked up 44 award wins across the board, including 3 Golden Globes, 2 Critics’ Choice Awards, one SAG award, and a Bafta this previous Sunday to add to the collection. The Revenant, a 19th-century thriller starring DiCaprio as the lead along with Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter is slated for release in India on February 26.

Call of Duty Black Ops III Gets a Cheaper, Multiplayer-Only Version for PC

Call of Duty Black Ops III Gets a Cheaper, Multiplayer-Only Version for PC

Despite being the best-selling game of 2015 worldwide, Activision thinks there are people who may have been teased off by the heavy starting price of Rs. 3,999 for its latest shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops III. That’s because it has announced a multiplayer-only version of the game for Steam, available for download only until the end of this month, February 29.

Terming it the “Multiplayer Starter Pack”, the newly available downsized version of Black Ops III will cost Rs. 990 but comes with a few caveats. It will only provide access to publicly ranked multiplayer games and side features such as Weapon Paint Shop, Gunsmith, Arena, Free run, Theatre, and the Black Market.

Activision has also provided a list of things that are not part of the new version, namely:

  • Zombies game mode
  • Campaign game mode
  • Ability to play in Multiplayer custom games
  • Ability to Prestige (your level will be capped at 55 in the Starter Pack)
  • Access to mod tools or modded content (once released)
  • Access to unranked server browser (once released)
  • Ability to Fresh Start your profile
  • The ability to access Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmares mode

With Activision Blizzard missing its target for the quarter as detailed in its quarterly report, this may be a way for the company to get some money out of players who were never planning to fork over the original amount for the full game anyway. But the company is still keeping that option open though, in hopes of the starter pack convincing you to buy the full version. The full game upgrade) will run you Rs. 3,009, taking the final cost to the same as buying the game outright. That’s only fair, and the MP Starter Pack serves as a paid demo in effect. You can also choose to upgrade to the Digital Deluxe version of Black Ops III for Rs. 5,625 which comes with the Season Pass.

The Season Pass will guarantee access to four downloadable content (DLC) map packs to be released throughout the year. Alongside that, the Digital Deluxe edition contains “The Giant” zombie bonus map and three different personalisation packs that offer weapons, reticles and calling cards.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III received an 8 out of 10 in our review last year, and was praised for its sprawling campaign and rewarding different playing styles.

Real Cricket 16 for Android and iOS Announced

Real Cricket 16 for Android and iOS Announced

Real Cricket 14 remains one of the better representations of the sport on Android and iOS. This comes despite competition from the likes of Disney India’s ICC Pro Cricket games and a myriad of cookie-cutter clones that clutter the App Store and Google Play.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new entry in the series. The last major update was based on the2015 Cricket World Cup, quickly followed up by an Indian Premier League based update. They also released a separate game in Real Cricket: Test Match in July last year. We noticed that the game’s Facebook page has announced the impending arrival of Real Cricket 16 complete with a new cover and profile picture.

That’s not all, it seems that developer Nautilus Mobile’s approach to the sequels might be different.

“Cricket season is coming…. And so is something else. Guess what’s coming in the form of a massive update soon!” teased a post on the game’s Facebook page.

The implications are interesting. Rather than forcing you to download a complete new game and lose out on all your earned progress, it appears you’ll carry over what you’ve earned in Real Cricket 14. It’s something Nautilus Mobile CEO Anuj Mankar confirmed to Gadgets 360. If this works out as it should, it has interesting ramifications for local game development practices.

Most Indian developers prefer releasing a new game rather than use an existing framework to build upon. From a game design and development standpoint it possibly means that when Real Cricket 14 was in production, its roadmap was far more future-proof than what we imagined.

We’ll be speaking to Mankar at length in the coming days to know more about Real Cricket 16 in terms of what to expect, gameplay updates, and a whole lot more. Anuj has also confirmed that the release date will be announced via our website soon. Needless to say, if you’re a long-time player of Real Cricket 14 or an avid mobile cricket game fan, you have more than enough of a reason to be happy.

Free Gameloft Games With Videocon Smartphones

Free Gameloft Games With Videocon Smartphones

Gameloft, the company responsible for mobile game franchises like Asphalt, Modern Combat, and Nova is now making its titles available on Videocon’s smartphones.

Games like Asphalt Nitro, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Nova 3: Freedom Edition, and Bubble Bash are among those that will be playable on Videocon handsets. Don’t expect all of them to be full versions, playable in their entirety. The company confirms that there will be trial versions, allow you to play a game for free upto 5 times for 180 seconds each, after which you’ll have to pay for it through carrier billing.

“At Gameloft, we see an exponential growth in smart device sales and gameplay usage pattern in emerging markets like India. With the upcoming leaders like Videocon, high quality titles will be more accessible to consumers and will enhance their overall gaming experience,” said Ashish Gupta, Country Head (India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh) at Gameloft.

“The smartphone has passed that phase when it was only considered as a communication device. Today, the mobile phone gaming has become so popular that it has become one of the major elements of smartphone ecosystem. Game loft is one of the biggest players in mobile gaming industry and this association will surely boost the gaming experience of Videocon smartphone users,” said Jerold Pereira, CEO, Videocon Mobile Phones.

Gameloft isn’t the only international publisher to tie-up with a well known brand in India. In the past Electronic Arts worked with Samsung for EA Play. Considering that Samsung is perceived as one of the few high-end Android smartphone manufacturers, it’s safe to assume a portion of its users have the capacity to spend on apps and games. Harnessing that in the way of offering discounts could just be what is needed to push them over the edge and at the same time offer them quality, ad-free gaming experiences.

Forza Horizon 3, Forza 6 Coming to Windows 10 PCs

Forza Horizon 3, Forza 6 Coming to Windows 10 PCs: Report

Last week we reported that two Xbox One exclusives, Gears of War 4 and Scalebound, would be coming to Windows 10 PCs. Now, other Microsoft exclusives such as Forza 6 and the yet to be announced Forza Horizon 3 have been rumoured for Windows 10 PC as well.

The news comes via Windows Central which cites Chinese site WPDang as its source. According to “unnamed sources”, Forza 6 will release on the Windows 10 Store along with Forza Horizon 3 in order to prop up game offerings on Windows 10.

While Forza Horizon 3 is yet to be announced and Forza 6 released to critical acclaim, they would be solid additions to a store-front that’s not even close to GOG or Steam in terms of content.

According to Gamespot, Gears of War 4, ReCore, Scalebound, and Fable Legends are coming to Windows 10 PC as well. While ReCore and Fable Legends were already announced for Windows 10 PC earlier, Scalebound and Gears of War 4 were not. No indication on release dates for either title were mentioned. We’d speculate that Scalebound might just end up being released on the same day and date as the Xbox One version, and there will perhaps be a period of timed exclusivity for Gears of War 4 as the franchise is perceived as an Xbox exclusive.

All of this followed the announcement of Quantum Break coming to Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One on the same day. Microsoft has said that anyone pre-ordering the game digitally for Xbox One nets you the Windows 10 PC version for free. The Xbox One version will include a full game download of Remedy’s last game, Alan Wake, along with its two DLC add-ons, The Signal and The Writer. Pre-ordering from select retailers will also grant access to Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, a standalone expansion that was released for the Xbox 360 two years after the first game.

StarCraft on Your iPhone? Don’t Rule It Out, Says Blizzard

StarCraft on Your iPhone? Don't Rule It Out, Says Blizzard

While Diablo and WarCraft hitmaker Blizzard is traditionally perceived as a PC-first game developer, that hasn’t stopped it from taking steps towards making games on mobiles. We’ve seen this happen thanks to its rousing success with card battle game, Hearthstone. And now it seems like the gaming giant wants to consider its other IPs like StarCraft and Overwatch for smaller screens.

“If you look at Overwatch, if you look at StarCraft, we have multiple franchises that would lend themselves to that concept,” said Frank Pearce, Senior Vice President and Co-Founder at Blizzard in conversation with VentureBeat.

He claimed that real-time strategy games in particular, is a genre ripe for disruption.

“If we were going to continue to evaluate experiences in real-time strategy, I think we’d have to figure out what that means to the current player space. [StarCraft II expansion] Legacy of the Void is great. [But] I don’t think that people want to sit down and play 45 minute missions any more. I think that space might need some reinventing.”

Don’t expect it to be in the vein of current free-to-play mobile games that are casual in nature either, added President and Co-Founder Michael Morhaime.

“I feel like there’s still a big opportunity in mobile beyond just casual games,” he said. “I’m not sure we’ve figured out what that is yet.”

However with Hearthstone has been doing well on mobile, remaining in the top 40 grossers for iOS sales we won’t be surprised if Blizzard is close to cracking the formula. According to market research firm SuperData the game made $500 million since its debut in 2013, and it’s the leader in the $1.2 billion digital card game market.

Hitman Go to Launch on Steam, PS4, and PS Vita Next Week

Hitman Go to Launch on Steam, PS4, and PS Vita Next Week

Hitman Go, the critically acclaimed mobile spin-off featuring Agent 47, will release on Steam next Tuesday, and on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita next Wednesday, Square Enix Montréal announcedin a blog post Monday on its official website.

It will be launched as “Hitman Go: Definitive Edition”, as Square has worked to upgrade the graphics for bigger screens that players generally use with their PCs and consoles. The company has also modified the game to optimise control schemes for keyboards and controllers. The game will also support cross-buy for PlayStation, which means if you pick it up (digitally) for one of PS4 or Vita, you get it for the other automatically. And you also get cross-save functionality allowing you to leave the house without putting the game down.

“We are very excited to be bringing Hitman Go to even more players with this revisited edition. We hope the challenging turn-based gameplay will please even the most dedicated Hitman fans,” Patrick Naud, head of Square Enix Montreal said in a statement. “Hitman Go is an innovative iteration of the successful stealth franchise and should see continued success with this release on consoles and PC.”

Hitman Go remains one of the best adaptations of a triple-A franchise for a medium more suited to touch. It’s a turn-based puzzle game that stretches across seven different environments, with over a hundred puzzle sets to go through. And on top of that, it’s also one of the few games that manages to turn replay value into more than a gameplay mechanic, as it actually feels rewarding upon completing the different objectives.

The table-top board game was first released on Android and iOS back in 2014, and a version for Windows Store and Windows Mobile was made available a year later. With a triple-A entry slated for release next month, this is another way of marketing its arrival. The 2015 Hitman reboot is also getting a beta on Windows PC next week, which will incidentally finish before Hitman Go makes its way into stores.

Hitman Go: Definitive Edition will be available on Steam and PlayStation next Tuesday/ Wednesday for $7.99 (approx. Rs. 550). With Steam now using INR pricing, expect it to be available for comparatively less.

Get Hitman Free With Select AMD Video Cards and Processors

Get Hitman Free With Select AMD Video Cards and Processors

With action-stealth series Hitman seeing a new, episodic entry next month, developer IO Interactive is partnering with AMD to bring the game to those purchasing AMD hardware.

“Qualifying purchases from participating retailers of an AMD Radeon R9 390/390X graphics card or FX 6-/8-Core PIB [processor in box] will receive a free copy of the creative stealth action game, Hitman,” reads a prepared statement from the company. “As well as the full years content, users will also receive access to the BETA for Hitman, running from the 19th – 22nd February, 2016.”

As a part of the AMD Gaming Evolved program, Hitman will be host to graphic intensive features unique to DirectX 12 hardware, namely asynchronous compute engines. These handle heavier workloads of bustling, complex games like Hitman for better image quality without compromising performance. This was first discovered by WCCFTech.com in a Game Developer Conference 2016 session description. The bundles themselves are no secret, leaked by Sweclockers days prior.

The Hitman bundles will be available until April 30 or until stocks last and the code for the game can be redeemed by June 30.

It’s rare to see AMD bring gaming bundles of any flavour or variety to India. Other such offers such as cards bundled with Stars Wars Battlefront never made it here. In fact, it’s even rarer to see anything higher than an R9 370 mid-range video card on store shelves and online. Cards like the R9 390, R9 390X, and R9 Nano are not even available in the country regularly, and when they are, they are in exceedingly short supply.

“If you want a Fury or a 390, you’ll need to pay upfront and be prepared to wait for a month. We only get one or two every other month and they’re usually pre-booked,” a computer store owner on Lamington Road in Mumbai informs us. According to him there’s demand for AMD’s mid-range and high-end cards, but the company’s India operations doesn’t see any value in bringing them in. It’s reached a point where certain stores are looking at importing them directly into the country to meet the demands of their long-time clientele.

On the topic of value, with Hitman costing Rs. 999 on Steam (though it is cheaper if you know where to look), it makes us wonder how much sense this bundle makes. Even more so considering that this announcement has been made public barely two days before the Hitman beta begins for PC and that the R9 390 is next to impossible to find locally.
